Some of my Indonesian friends have
a very good in technical knowledge, but on the other side, when they have to
speak in front of different nationalities in the meeting, they usually nervous
and speak not so well in English. Maybe this is one of the weakness for most of
Indonesian.
I remembered that I was start
to study English when I was 12 years old which is too late, even I took English
course after the school finished every day, but in our daily conversation at
home or even at school, we were still using Bahasa Indonesia, so in my opinion the
effect of understanding about English was so little.
After I worked in the
international company, I started to learn a lot about English, because there is
no option and I have to speak English all the time, this situation make me learn
so quick. I might lucky that I can have this opportunity to work in
International company, because most of Indonesian works in National company and
government office, so for them, English is not the first language.
After 10 years working in
International company, I realized that English is a must and that would be an
advantage if you have that skill. Right now, I can speak English well and writing
well too, but sometimes my Grammar need someone to check because not all of the
tenses and grammar rules that I can remember.
To improve my grammar, I searched
Grammar book and found the good ones. There are 3 grammar books that is very
helpful for me to practice English. Those books were written by Betty S. Azar which
are including Basic, Understanding English and Fundamental English. Most of the
information about grammar, tenses, etc. was explained very well in the book and
I am sure you can easily understand just by read the book without someone to
explain.
So far, I have already filled
up all pages from the first book and it was really useful, I will continue fill
it up until I will finish all of those books and I hope that I can get more understanding
about Grammar that can make me better in English. You should try as well,
because to know only one language is not enough, we need to know more than one
language especially it is important to know about English as an International
language and most of the people around the world are using English.
I am sure when you are
fluently in English, you will have an easier situation working in International
company and business.
